VRML 3D Programming with Symbolic Composer
Symbolic Composer includes powerful VRML 3D Macros, that let the composer fuse together music and architecture. The VRML Macros provide full compatibility to both SCOM Function Library and the Lisp Language.

VRML2 provides the artist full compatibility to the future -- VRML2 is the official language of the 3D Web known as Cyberspace, and the VRML2 definition is included in the MPEG4 Specification.

Symbolic Composer includes complete VRML2 Documentation and VRML Tutorial accessible on the System Index and Menus Window.

The examples show how VRML Macros are used and how they connect to SCOM Functions.

The principle is very simple: for each VRML2 Command there is a equivalent VRML Macro. Call of the macro produces the VRML2 Command, for example

(box)

creates the following output:

Box {
}

(dotimes (i 5)
  (Box
    :size (1+ i) (1+ i) (1+ i)))

--> prints the following to output stream

Box {
  size 1 1 1
}
Box {
  size 2 2 2
}
Box {
  size 3 3 3
}
Box {
  size 4 4 4
}
Box {
  size 5 5 5
}

The VRML Macros produce standard 3-Dimensional .wrl files that can be viewed offline with VRML viewer, and the .wrl files can be imported to 3D Editing Software for further assembling.

Notice that SCOM does not pose any limits for the scene complexity. This makes SCOM 3D the most powerful 3D Generator available for the PC and Mac. Here is an example of a hypercube produced with Symbolic Composer.

Symbolic Composer 3D opens up exciting creative possibilities for the composer to experiment with:

  • Visualize Compositional Parameters in 3D.
  • Desing 3D Spaces Based on Music.
  • Construct Virtual Architecture by Algorithms.
  • Compose Music Based on 3D Forms.
SCOM 3D - Einsteins Daydream

VRML is an acronym for the Virtual Reality Modeling Language. Using VRML you can craft three-dimensional virtual worlds. You can build virtual rooms, buildings, cities, mountains, or planets. You can fill virtual worlds with virtual furniture, cars, people, spacecraft, or anything else you  can dream up.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of VRML is its ability to link virtual worlds together on the World Wide Web (WWW or the Web). Using linking, you can connect a door in your world to another VRML world described elsewhere on the Web. Doors in that world can link back to your world or to other worlds on the Web. VRML linking puts the entire Internet at your fingertips, enabling you to explore the network as if wandering through a vast universe.

SCOM 3D will put this concept a little further and it gives you the tools to generate three dimensional worlds and objects by algorithms. Algorithmic generation helps you to design more vivid virtual objects than doing it by handcrafting. Instead of manually writing down the VRML code you'll be writing the code that generates VRML. You don't have to specify individual objects one by one, but you define the general form and let the algorithms to fill in the details.

SCOM 3D lets you also make the silent cyberspace full of sound based on composition models or algorithms through MIDI files, that you can place in the server together with 3D worlds generated from the same data.
