Does It Run on My System?
SCOM runs on Mac OS X 10.4-10.6 (full Intel Native, runs also on PPC
Macs, can run in older OS X versions). SCOM runs on both Windows XP and
Windows 7, too.
On both platforms SCOM provides blazing speed of
even very complex scores in seconds, and its MIDI files are full
compatible with all music software (all can import MIDI files).
SCOM uses integral playback through Apple's
Quicktime Music Synthesizer and Windows' Media Player, which launch by
default after SCOM compilation.
This feature provides convenience to test out
quickly your themes, chords and rhythms using General MIDI Synthesizer
draft-quality sounds - and later use sequencer to finalize the mix.
SCOM can also launch another MIDI File Player
application. This is a nice feature, since it allows SCOM play
instantly with high-quality sounds with software synths and samplers.
Playback is realized with "virtual cabling" from the MIDI player into
the synthesizer. On Mac there is build-in MIDI Bus, and on Windows it
requires to install either MidiYoke or LoopBe, both
freeware software.
Can SCOM Launch My Sequencer?
SCOM can also launch the MIDI file directly into a sequencer or
notation software - it solely depends on the capability of the
sequencer itself.
SCOM uses this mechanism for launching. Most music
apps (such as Logic, Cubase, Sibelius, just to mention few) are capable
to launch MIDI files this way.
On Mac launch settings are done by entering the name
of the launcher program in SCOM's settings file, and on Windows by
specifying ".mid" File Type Opener on a Windows Control Panel.
If direct sequencer-launching is important to you
please check the launching mechanism works before bying SCOM right away!
On Mac try dragging the MIDI file
on the sequencer icon, and on Windows try double-clicking the MIDI file
icon
(remember to define the Windows ".mid" file opener to use your
sequencer first).
If MIDI files just won't launch into your sequencer
that way, you still may use SCOM in your composition: compose with
draft sounds (you'd be amazed how many top compositions were made with
just piano or guitar as an instrument), and once the score is ready
import it into your sequencer for final mastering - all of them still
supply Import MIDI Command on the menus.

How Do I Run SCOM?
First, write your composition in an elegant and efficient
music language. That's easier than you think in SCOM's interactive
music programming environment. Press the Compile button, and in seconds
your score turns into MIDI and sound.
What Tools Does It Has?
SCOM has all the tools you need for writing a symphony, or a
cool club mix, and just about anything in between. The 1000 power-tools
let you transpose, retrograde, invert, mix, analyze, convert, ornament,
filter, shift, scroll, and morph, just to mention few of them. Apply
them to melodies, chords, rhythms, durations, velocities, channels
& program changes, controllers and tempos. Let SCOM handle all the
time-consuming calculations for you.
Can SCOM Handle My Music?
You'll find SCOM boosts your musical ideas from tiny seeds
into
large-scale super-structures. SCOM also deals perfectly with irrational
rhythms and tempo changes, thanks to its Free Resolution Technology.
This is invaluable when writing music for human performers, or scoring
complex electroacoustics.
Can SCOM Help Me Compose?
The web-like HyperHelp gives you
on-line help with a click of
a keyword. With SCOM's menus using a music language has never been
easier. Its generators handle all the hot buzzwords such as "fractals",
"chaos", "fibonacci series", "neural networks", "astronomy" and dozens
of others. SCOM recognises tonality as a fundamental aspect of music,
and gives you access to all scales, chords and tunings found in western
music - and it is fully expandable, of course.
Does It Grow With Me?
SCOM is one of the few music systems that you can truly
customize and extend. Build libraries from MIDI files and create your
own power-tools which can be integrated onto macro menus and HyperHelp.
Care has been taken to enable the working composer to learn the system
quickly but thoroughly. SCOM is basic technology alongside samplers,
sound-modules, sequencers and softsynths.
